The Country Faced During Independence - 2061 Words
Battera (2013), states that formation of political parties in Kenya was based on ââ¬Å"tribesâ⬠before independence . Over time, ethnicity has grown to become part of the political organization in the Kenyan politics. Among the major challenges which the country faced during independence included access to resources for instance land also the problem of ethnicity which have had an influence in the politics of the country. It is important to note that the ââ¬Å"centralized stateâ⬠in Kenya has enhanced ethnicity in the country. Up to the inauguration of the 2010 constitution, it is worth to note that the President as well as the ruling politicians was able to relate to the state in an ââ¬Å"instrumentalâ⬠manner. Most of the grievances in the country have taken an ethnic form with people who are considered not to support their own during the national elections viewed as being traitors. Thus the problem of ethnicity in Kenya is a problem that has grown over the years but then the Kenyan government is just hiding itself in the name of democracy without addressing the issue that is affecting the economy of the country. This means that ethnicity has developed to become an important idea in influencing the outcome of the Kenyan elections while formation of majority of the political parties in the country is driven by ethnicity. With ethnicity becoming an important factor in the political competition in the country as well as allocation of national resources, the promulgation of the constitution in 2010 was mean t to handle this increased issue by streamlining of the political
